Name an alternate
Name one colleague or assistant who stands in for you. They can RSVP, check in and give referrals for your business, and it all counts for you.
An alternate is someone who stands in for you when you can't make it, like a colleague or an assistant. You can name one standing alternate. They can then use the portal for your business whenever you need them.
How do I name my alternate?
- Open Profile & settings and find Your alternate.
- Enter their Name and Email. Phone is optional.
- Tap Add my alternate.
We email them right away with how to sign in, and your chapter leaders are told who they are. The email must be their own. It can't belong to a member, or to someone who is already another member's alternate. Use an address they check, since it's how they sign in.
The panel shows whether they've signed in yet. To name a different person, tap Change, enter the new details and tap Save alternate. The new person gets their own welcome email, and the person they replace can no longer sign in.
What can my alternate do?
Your alternate signs in with their own email. There's no password: they get a 6-digit code. Their Home is a short page with three things.
- Say they're coming. They tap I'm coming on their Next meeting card, and the chapter sees they're coming for you. Your own card also gets a third choice with their first name, like Jo is coming for me.
- Check in. At the meeting, they scan the code on the screen and confirm with their email. It counts as your attendance.
- Give referrals. Referrals they give count for you. The member who receives one is told your alternate gave it.
When they're coming in your place, they get the See you today reminder with the map, if your chapter sends it. Your leader sees who's coming for whom on Meetings.
What can't they do?
Your alternate isn't a member. They aren't listed in the directory, and they don't count toward the chapter's member numbers or hold a category seat.
They see only their own Home and Help. They don't see referrals you receive, your profile, your settings or the member list. They can't say they were at a meeting after it ended, and they can't name an alternate of their own.
How do I remove my alternate?
- In Your alternate, tap Remove.
- Confirm. They can't sign in any more.
Your leader can also remove an alternate from your details in Members. Past check-ins and referrals your alternate entered stay on your record.
Need someone to fill in just once? You can have only one standing alternate at a time. Someone who comes one time in your place can check in with the guest form, like any visitor. That counts as a guest visit, not as your attendance.
Questions
Does my alternate's check-in count as my attendance?
Yes. When your alternate scans in at a meeting, it's recorded as your attendance, and the points are yours.
Who gets the credit for referrals my alternate gives?
You do. The referral is given in your name, and the member who receives it is told your alternate entered it.
Can my alternate see the referrals I receive?
No. Referral contact details stay with you, the giver and your leader. Your alternate only sees their own Home and Help.
Can I have more than one alternate?
No, one at a time. To switch, tap Change in Your alternate and enter the new person's details.
Can my alternate use their work email if I use mine?
Yes, as long as it's a different address. An alternate needs their own email, one that isn't used by a member or another alternate.
